Risk Management Coordinator - Clinical/Hospital

Job Details Sonora Behavioral Health Hospital has an immediate need for an experienced Clinical/Hospital Risk Management Coordinator to review and analyze accident and incident reports; coordinate clinical risk management programs and assist with implementing strategies for best practices and risk management support for the hospital staff and patients. Sonora Behavioral Health, located in Tucson, is Arizona's largest inpatient psychiatric hospital. We provide stabilization treatment of mental health and chemical dependency issues affecting children, adolescents, adults and active duty military personnel. We are fully accredited by the Joint Commission and committed to providing superior quality care. PURPOSE STATEMENT: Provide support activities for the departments of Risk Management and Performance Improvement ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Review accident and incident reports to track trending and develop preventative measures. - Identify potential and actual concerns. - Compile data and conduct Root Cause analysis - Assist with implementing strategies for best practices. - Educating clinical providers and staff. - Facilitates risk control activities (e.g. Root Cause Analysis) and risk assessments (e.g. Failure Mode Effect Analysis) throughout the facility to reduce the number, severity and cost of losses. - Manages the electronic incident reporting system and ensures that events are identified, addressed, trended and analyzed. - Participates in routine rounds in all clinical areas in collaboration with the facilities and nursing department to identify and remediate areas of risk. - Interfaces with quality and patient advocates to address complaints or grievance related to safety and risk. - Assist in maintaining accreditation compliance, patient safety goals and other state or licensing requirements. - Facilitate document processing between managers and committees. - Record and maintain committee meeting minutes, performance improvement and risk management documentation. - Maintenance and updating of policy and procedure manuals. - Maintain and update electronic and physical database. - Assist in project implementation and system-wide education and compliance initiatives including compliance with State Licensing and CMS regulatory requirements - Track projects as assigned throughout the facility, which may include but is not limited to quality council, policies and procedures, safety committee, departmental monitors, board monitors and graphs. - Focus on improving patient safety and the health of the patient's at the facility. - Perform other functions and tasks as assigned. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree within a clinical healthcare field such as nursing or counseling, or equivalent experience. - Two years of risk assessment experience in an acute care/behavioral healthcare setting. - Two years of experience working in a compliance or risk capacity. - Experience with Joint Commission/CARF accreditation. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Skilled in evaluating situations and making recommendations to lessen risk to the hospital. - Skilled in facilitating and developing professional relationships. - Skilled in serving as a coach, mentor and positive role mode. - Ability to respond to sensitive and/or confidential inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies. - Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. - Ability to work in a fast paced environment utilizing tact, patience and diplomacy. - Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of leadership, clinicians, patients and funders and regulatory agencies. - Excellent interpersonal skills based on clinical knowledge and experience - Excellent negotiation and mediation skills - Excellent organizational, self-motivational and problem-solving skills - Able to endure waiting or delay without becoming annoyed or upset or to persevere calmly when faced with difficulties. LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS: - Current applicable licensure (RN, Counselor, etc) - First Aid, CPR, de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
